Providing highly resolved LES turbulence data under different meteorological conditions for the validation of the DLR-code THETA
Responsible: Farah Kanani?
Project type: Subjob (funded by DLR Göttingen) within the research project SimBA (funded by BMWi)
Duration: 01/04/2014-31/03/2015

The main goal of the BMWi-Project SimBA (German: Simulationswerkzeug für die hochgenaue und effiziente aero-dynamische Berechnung und Auslegung von Windenergieanlagen), under the direction of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology in Göttingen, Germany, is the development of a German research code for the numerical simulation of flows around wind energy plants. By means of this code, the efficiency of wind energy plants shall be increased for different meteorological situations.

In a subjob for the project SimBA, highly resolved turbulence data shall be generated with PALM for different meteorological conditions. These data are then utilized to verify and validate the developed DLR research code. For this purpose, the provided turbulence data will be introduced into the DLR code THETA. It will be investigated by the DLR how the wind energy plants interact with the turbulence in the THETA-simulated flow field.
