Examples of parameter sets

This chapter gives examples of parameter sets for a variety of advanced model runs. The corresponding parameter files are stored either in trunk/TESTS/cases or trunk/EXAMPLES. The letter storage location is used for runs that are too computationally expensive for running as a test job, whereas the first storage location includes all test cases that are used to test the model PALM on its functionality after a new revision has been committed. Because test cases need to be quite short, you probably have to extend the model domain, simulation time, or reduce the grid spacing of the given parameter files to get physical meaningful results. Apart from that, these files can be directly used together with the palmrun configuration file (.palm.config) and palmrun IO file (.palm.iofiles) to carry out the respective model runs.

For a description of the basic parameter settings which are generally required, see the description of the example file, which explains the settings for a simple run of a quasi-stationary, convective, atmospheric boundary layer with zero mean horizontal wind. All other examples only explain those settings which are specific for the respective runs (e.g. only the specific ocean parameters are described in the parameter set for simulating ocean convection).
