Numerical impacts on the strength of simulated dust devils

The strength of simulated dust devils is smaller than observed values. Particularly, the pressure deviation from ambient is more than one order of magnitude too small. In a high resolution large-eddy simulation the impact of numerical methods (calculation of perturbation pressure, advection schemes according to Piacsek and Williams [1970] and Wicker and Skamarock [2002]) on the strength, frequency and structure of dust devils is investigated.
