'''LES-Study on the Energy Imbalance Problem for Heterogeneous Surfaces''' \\ Responsible: Atsushi Inagaki \\ Project type: Academic Frontiers Student Exchange Promotion Program In 2003-2004 ([http://www.mext.go.jp/english/ MEXT], Japan) \\ Duration: 01/05/2003 - 31/03/2004 \\\\ This is a joint project with Siegfried Raasch and Manabu Kanda at the [http://www.ide.titech.ac.jp/~kandalab/ Department of International Development Engineering], Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. It includes an 11-month research stay in Germany. \\\\ This study examines the energy imbalance problem using Large Eddy Simulation model. We represent typical a day-time convective boundary layer with no synoptic-scale vertical motion. By means of this, [../../publications#y2002 Kanda et al. (2002)] have already revealed the basic characteristics of energy imbalance aroused by a horizontally homogeneous surface. Based on this result, this study investigates the case of heterogeneous surface condition. The heterogenity is given as 1-dimensional sinusoidal surface heating as in [../../publications#y2002 Letzel & Raasch (2002)]. In this study, the influence of the complexity or magnitude of heteroginity heating are important and we examine it in detail. (See also the study by [../2001_02 Kanda & Letzel].)
